The Committee was established under the River Dee Joint Committee Order, 1932, and the River Dee Conservancy Act, 1889. It was responsible for pollution prevention and included representatives from Chester Corporation, Cheshire, Denbighshire, Merioneth and Shropshire County Councils. Under the River Board Act, 1948, its powers were transferred to the Dee and Clwyd River Board.
