Scope and Content

Letter from Tobias Theodores to Gustav Gottheil: Theodores writes that his servant Ann has become engaged and will leave his service, and that his wife thinks they should move to London because otherwise they will not be able to find an adequate replacement. He advises Gottheil not to send his daughter Gertrud to Manchester for an education, since he does not think it will be any better than in America. He informs Gottheil of illnesses and deaths among their acquaintance and judges Kaufmann to have been insufficiently philanthropic in his will.

A sermon preached by the bishop of Manchester for the conversion of Jews to Christianity has caused an outcry among Jews, and a flurry of correspondence to the Jewish newspapers. Theodores mentions that someone has written a book agains Christianity and cited an article of his in it, and thinks that there is too much theology in daily life now. [contains some Hebrew and English].
