Scope and Content

The archive consists of Noel Greig's collection of scripts, discs and DVDs of his work, together with flyers, posters, reviews and other material accumulated over the years relating to his work.
The material also includes:
Copies of Noel Greig's published scripts and other works.
Copies of Noel Greig's many unpublished scripts as well as works in development, early drafts, songs and sketches.
Audio and video recordings of many of Noel Greig's plays in production.
Extensive collection on Noel Greig's play Poppies including its productions in Germany (Klatschmohn), USA and Australia (as On Parliament Hill).
Extensive collection of reviews and flyers of Noel Greig's own plays as well as of his work as an actor and director.
Materials on gay culture general
Material from New Writing projects including Transmissions (Birmingham Rep), Authentic Voices (Theatre Centre)
Material on international projects including Contacting the World and The Entire World is a Foreign Land (Singapore)

Administrative / Biographical History

Noel Greig was born in 1944 and brought up in Skegness. After graduating from King's College London he went on to set up the Brighton Combination with Jenny Harris and Ruth Marks, one of the first Arts Labs in Britain and with them performed, directed, organised cinema showings, discos, a cafe and began to write, first collectively and then individually. He went on to work with Ed Berman's Fun Art Bus, a project of the community arts groups Inter-Action. He worked with The General Will and was a key member of Gay Sweatshop, later writing extensively for and with young people through Theatre Centre.

Acquisition Information

The collection was given to the College by Noel Greig's estate after his death, following his wishes. The archive was brought to the College by Susan Croft, one time Rose Bruford College Research Fellow, following discussions with Noel that grew out of an Unfinished Histories' oral history interview with him.


There is the possibility of more material being donated by the estate and by friends of Noel Greig.
