Gordon's role as Director of the Timetabling Advisory Service, Moray House College of Education, 1968 - 1974, including advisory notes, and exercises for basic inspectors' courses; papers relating to his time at Dunfermline High School, 1948 - 1968, including Dunfermline High School Magazine, 1948 - 1968, rector's reports, prize-giving addresses, speeches, etc., 1952 - 1971, articles, letters, and minutes of school board meetings; personal papers and certificates, 1924 - 1963, including degree certificates, Aberdeen (1929) and London (1934), FEIS scroll, (1963), dux medal from Robert Gordon's College, 1924 - 1925, medal for Reading from the Aberdeen Music Festival, 1930, and the Robbie gold medal for Greek from Aberdeen University, 1929.

Administrative / Biographical History

Charles Harold Gordon, son of James Gordon, timekeeper, was born in Deal, Kent, on 23 Apr 1908. He graduated from the University of Aberdeen, MA (first class honours in Classics) 1929, and proceeded to the teacher training course at Aberdeen Training College the following year. On completion of his training he was appointed principal teacher of Latin at North Berwick High School, and during his time there, studied for an external BA with London University, which was awarded with first class honours in 1934. He returned to Aberdeenshire in 1937, where he was appointed principal teacher of classics at Peterhead Academy, and whilst there met his wife Georgina Sinclair, whom he married on 16 Jul 1940. In 1945 he became rector of Wick High School, and in 1948, rector of Dunfermline High School. In 1968, he became director of the Timetabling Advisory Service at Moray House College of Education in Edinburgh, and from 1969 until his retirement in 1974 he also served as a co-opted member of the (then) Aberdeen County Council Education Committee. He died on 9 Apr 1992.
