George Byron, correspondence and manuscripts, together with related materials

Scope and Content

Comprises a collection of autograph poetry, letters and other writings by Byron; manuscripts of his poetry and other writings in the hand of others (including Mary Shelley), including copies of his 'English Bards and Scotch reviewers' and his story 'Mazeppa'; copies of the musical score 'Music of Manfred' by E.J. Loder; portraits of Byron; a copy of the first printed edition of 'Mazeppa' (London, 1819); and a proof copy of T.J. Wise's 'A Bibliography of the Writings in Verse and Prose of George Gordon Noel, Baron Byron' (London, privately printed, 1932).

Several of the volumes listed below are finely-bound with gold tooling, decorations, and gilt lettering on the spines. Editorial notes in many of the manuscripts probably derive from either John Cam Hobhouse or T.J. Wise.
