Wright was the son of William Wright, dean of the London Hospital. Wright studied medicine at Owens College Manchester and graduated in 1904; in 1908 he joined the RAMC. During the First World War, he rose to became assistant to the Director of Medical Services. He later served in India and Germany until his early death at the age of 45.
