Willcocks qualified at the University of Manchester in 1924 and took the MD in 1932. He specialised in tropical medicine and later worked in Tanganyika. He was director of the Bureau of Hygiene and Tropical Diseases in Lodon. He was married to Frances Wilcocks (see below).
