Administrative / Biographical History

The Scottish Council of Tenants' Associations was formed c1948  to promote co-operation and unity of action for speedy completion of the house-building programme, with adequate social amenities, defence against high rents and rent increases, the enforcement of protective legislation on Health and Housing, and to lobby for a new Rent Restrictions Act. The membership was open to all associations that subscribed to these objects. Each association could send 2 delegates to the Council's quarterly meetings. The Association was run by a Council elected at the Annual General Meeting in March of each year. Within the Council an executive committee was elected. The Association was affiliated to the National Association of Residents and Tenants. It is unclear as to the history of the Association after 1958 .
