Scope and Content

Material in the file is mostly correspondence, with a number of draft articles or draft letters for publication in the papers.

The file includes:

- Comments and responses to articles published in the press about the National Theatre (1953), for example on the issue of auditoria for the proposed theatre and the relationship between the Old Vic and the NT with regards to the prospective new Theatre, or progress on the project.

- The opposition of Mr Strauss MP to the National Theatre project at the conference on 'Arts and the People' organised by the Central London Fabian Society (1953);

- Correspondence between W.W. Blair-Fish, Editor of 'Service in Life and Work', Major H.E. Crawfurd of the National Theatre Appeal Committee and the Earl of Lytton; making arrangements for Lytton to write an article to be published on the autumn issue of 'Service in life and work' (1935).
