Scope and Content

This file includes the agenda for a meeting of the Committee, as well as a copy of a report on technical specifications for the potential theatre; the report was prepared by a Sub-Committee appointed by the Committee on the disposition of the site.

Administrative / Biographical History

This Committee was appointed after the purchase of the Gower St. / Keppel St site in Bloomsbury, to work towards utilising the site. Members on this committee when appointed were Lord Lytton, Lord Plymouth, Mrs Lyttelton, Carl Meyer, Herbert Beerbohm Tree, William Archer, Harley Granville-Barker, Arthur Bourchier, Robert Donald, George Bernard Shaw and the Israel Gollancz, with George Heyer as Secretary.

This Committee also appointed a Sub-Committee, to consider technical specifications for the proposed theatre in view of organisng a competition for architects.
