Scope and Content

This sub-series includes minutes, and notices and agendas for meetings of the Executive Committee of the Shakespeare Memorial National Theatre. The sub-series also includes some additional material connected with particular meetings, such as reports, or papers documenting special meetings or events organised at meetings of the Executive.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Shakespeare Memorial National Theatre Executive Committee was appointed in 1905 and was the main driving force of the movement until 1945. After the appointment of the Joint Council of the National Theatre and the Old Vic in 1946, the SMNT Executive Committee continued to hold meetings, but these were less frequent.
