Administrative / Biographical History

Around 1962, it was suggested that the assets of the Shakespeare Memorial National Theatre Trust should be transferred to the South Bank Theatre and Opera House Board, for the South Bank Board to use such funds for the construction of the theatre on the South Bank of the Thames. After completion of the building, trusteeship of the SMNT funds would be transferred to the National Theatre Board, which will be responsible for the running of the theatre.
