Administrative / Biographical History

The Old Vic Sub-Committee was established in 1946, in connection with the appointment of the Joint Council of the Shakespeare Memorial National Theatre and the Old Vic, as a Sub-Committee of the Joint Council.

The remit of the Old Vic Sub-Committee was to oversee all matters of policy, administration and finance of the Old Vic, reporting to the Joint Council and to the Governors of the Old Vic. When appointed, the Old Vic Sub-Committee took over the work of the Old Vic Finance and General Purposes Committee. The Old Vic Sub-Committee was re-named the Old Vic Executive Committee in 1947. Kenneth Rae was secretary to the Old Vic Sub-Committee.
