An account of Hovell's travels across Germany (continued in later letters), specifically a trip to Strasbourg, where he discusses its recent history, topography and architecture, including the Minster (with particular reference to the clock). Also mentions the fifteen thousand strong town garrison and the prohibition of the French language in business and schools.
