Scope and Content

Brooke's papers consist of correspondence, 1769-94; 'field books' containing notes on topographical, antiquarian and personal matters made by Brooke during his travels in England and Belgium, 1775-93; and various other papers containing topographical and genealogical notes.

John Charles Brooke (1748-94) was Somerset Herald 1777-94. Details are given in the Dictionary of National Biography.
