Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
This collection comprises papers drawn together by Veronica Summers during her PhD research. The Cardiff Associate Institute for Improving and Enforcing the Laws for the Protection of Women was established in 1860. It originated from the determination of a group of Cardiff men to decrease the levels of prostitution in the town of Cardiff. The Association formed a Committee, and after taking legal advice resolved to prosecute the keepers of some of Cardiff's most notorious casinos and brothels.
