Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Jonas Brook & Bros Ltd, thread manufacturers, Meltham Mills, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England, was incorporated with limited liability in 1896 . In 1908 , the company converted to a private company. J & P Coats Ltd, thread manufacturers, Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, held the majority of shares. Jonas Brook & Bros Ltd used La Plata Reel Cotton Co Ltd, selling agents, Glasgow, Scotland, as their selling agent overseas. In 1931 , the company signed an agreement with United Thread Mills Ltd, thread manufacturers, Glasgow, to sell their property. In 1934, an agreement was signed between the company and J & P Coats Ltd in connection with the purchase of goods manufactured by the company. In 1940, J & P Coats Ltd were appointed as agents for trademark purposes. In 1950, power of attorney was given to Machine Cottons Ltd, thread distributors, Glasgow, to deal with all matters concerning trademarks in Brazil. In 1952 , all trademarks owned by the company were transferred to J & P Coats Ltd. In 1955, the registered office was moved to Eagley Mills, Bolton, England, as the property at Meltham was sold. In 2002, Jonas Brook & Bros Ltd was still active, with their base at Stockley Park, Uxbridge, England.
