Scope and Content

This collection dates primarily from the 1970s and covers not only Lewis' work for the Council, but also his membership of the Labour Party. His correspondence includes letters from local MPs, such as John Prescott and Harry Pursey. There is material about his attempts to enter Parliament and his work with the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers.

Administrative / Biographical History

Councillor Lewis wasactive from 1963, and was leader of the Labour Group on Humberside County Council, 1975-78, chairing the Policy Committee and also sitting on the Finance and Personnel Committees. He died in 1988.
