Scope and Content

The bulk of the collection is concerned with Sadie's output as a music critic, writer and broadcaster and includes press cuttings of performance, book and record reviews; printed programme notes; draft and printed disc notes; articles; lecture notes and broadcast scripts. Correspondence and related papers concerning his editorship of 'The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians' are included alongside agreements, correspondence and accounts relating to Sadie's various appointments as a reviewer and author. There are papers concerning various honorary appointments held by Sadie, his work as an expert witness, and correspondence with colleagues and 'fellow Mozarteans'. Music manuscripts and correspondence relating to Sadie's research into Mozart aria fragments and the compiling of editions of music are also included. Finally, there are recordings (in various media) featuring the musicianship, research interests and voice of Stanley Sadie.

Additional Information

Overall the collection is in good condition. However, some items of correspondence have been printed on thermal fax paper and the text is now so faint as to be barely readable despite a facsimile copy being made onto paper.
