Administrative / Biographical History

In January 1952 the Post Office Controlling Officers' Association, the Central Telegraph Superintending Officers' Association and the London Postal Superintending Officers' Association, all members of the Federation of Post Office Supervising Officers, amalgamated together as the Association of Post Office Controlling Officers. The final member of the Federation, the Postal Inspectors' Association, did not join the Association until 1959. In 1969 the APOCO became the Post Office Management Staffs Association, changing its name again to the Communication Managers' Association in 1981.
