Papers of Maurice Wynne of Gwydir, 1562-1579, including papers of the Gwydir estate, 1562-1573; Deputy Vice-Admiralcy and shrievalty papers, 1567-1579; papers relating to the Spicer family, of Caernarfon, 1548-1640; papers relating to the Robinson family, of Caernarfon, 1600-1629; papers relating to the Tre'r dafarn estate, Llanallgo, Anglesey, 1529-1555; and miscellaneous papers, 1547-1633.

Administrative / Biographical History

Caernarfonshire Court of Quarter Sessions accumulated in its Court Rolls a group of papers relating to families and lands in the area. Maurice Wynne, of Gwydir, Caernarfonshire, (d. 1580), was Member of Parliament for Caernarfonshire, 1553-1567, and Sheriff of Caernarfonshire in 1555, 1570 and 1578. He also served as deputy to his brother,, John Gwyn, Vice-Admiral of Caernarfonshire. The Spicer family of Caernarfon, Caernarfonshire, included John and his wife Margaret (d. 1548), and William (fl. 1549-1570), who was under-sheriff to Maurice Wynne. The Robinson family of Caernarfon included John (fl. 1600-1618), his wife Elin (fl. 1600-1620), and their sons Robert (fl. 1618-1626) and John.
