He reports that they [he and Blanche, wife] arrived safely in St Leonards. He reports that the pier, parade and West Marina have been damaged by a storm. He says that [Thomas] Brassey's mother has died, but he will not hear the news as he is travelling in China. He writes of friends in Warrior Square [St Leonards-on-Sea] and the sad loss of their favourite old servant, the coachman. He is lecturing on their Egyptian tour. He recommends a new book [A Thousand Miles up the Nile] by Amelia [Ann Blandford] Edwards.
