James O. Kay [cousin]. Letter to James Phillips Kay (College Post Office, Edinburgh [Scotland]).
Dated at: Bass Lane [Bury].
He talks of the ongoing economic depression. He says that Robert [James's father] was with him the day a mob destroyed the power looms in his factory. Ashton's and Mr Haslam have called the military in to stand guard day and night. Nine or ten people have been killed, mainly as a result of stones being thrown at the soldiers. Everyone is well at Meadowcroft. His aunts are due to visit Edinburgh [Scotland] soon.
