Hannah Kay [mother]. Letter to James Phillips Kay (College Post Office, Edinburgh [Scotland]).

Dated at: Meadowcroft [Rochdale, Lancashire].

She tells him that she was delayed on her return from seeing him in Manchester and the waiting in the cold weather left her quite unwell. She reports an accident that befell his cousins, "the Limefield girls". The incident occurred at Cheetham Hill as they returned from a Bible meeting in Manchester. The horses pulling their carriage bolted, the carriage was badly damaged, and one of his cousins was injured.
