From: [Various vocal and instrumental music]
Incipit: "In infancy our hopes and fears"
The single concordance provided in the British union-catalogue of early music printed before the year 1801, ed. Edith B. Schnapper (London: Butterworth Scientific Publications, 1957) and the Catalogue of printed music in the British Library to 1980 (London: K. G. Saur, 1981) suggests that this song is most probably from Thomas Arne's opera, "Artaxerxes" (London, 1762). This incipit is not found in Cyrus Lawrence Day and Eleanore Boswell Murrie, English song-books, 1651-1702: a bibliography (London: Bibliographical Society, 1940), or in David Hunter, Opera and song books published in England, 1703-1726: a descriptive bibliography (London: Bibliographical Society, 1997).
