Scope and Content

Typescript copy letter from G G [Dr George Gregory] of Leyton, Essex, to Great Chesterfield Street, London, expressing his very strong objections to the proposal of marriage made by Mr G to Sally.

He would consider it insanity 'for a person of your accomplishments to throw yourself away upon a very old man with another family, who can scarcely maintain you'.

Sally does not love the man, and there is no comparison with Mary Black for 'De B was of her own age, and she was attached to him'.

No true friend would ever advise such a course of action, and Sally should be especially suspicious of Mrs de La Main's motives in advancing Mr G's case.
