[Letters to Green Hey House near Manchester]

To Sally Wesley, mentioning Sally's recent birthday.

Sally's brother [Charles?] attends on Sir Joseph and Lady Andrews once a week, to entertain their visitors with his playing. Sir Joseph's father [James Petttit Andrews?] continues to suffer from poor health.

She wrote to Mr Ireland to ask him to raise with Mr Durbin and the other Methodist preachers the possiblity of them rendering financial assistance to the family for the upkeep of the house in Chesterfield Street. Only Mr Durbin and Miss Johnson have expressed a willingness to help, with the others pleading very heavy demands on their resources. They did not mention the massive income earned for them by the sale of the published works of John and Charles Wesley.

Dr Burney is apparently moving back to 'B'con' (Brecon?), and this will hopefully enable Charles to apply for the organist's position at the Chelsea Hospital Chapel.

Dr Hayes has died.

Mrs Jeffries stayed for a fortnight after her sons refused to take her in. Sarah wrote to Tom Jeffries in Bath, Somerset, criticising his behaviour, which follows soon after his mother nursed him through a dangerous illness. She received a reply that was extrememly abusive, describing her as an 'old canting hypocrite'.

Mrs Jones also recently came to Sarah in great distress asking to stay with her for a month, as a change of scene had been strongly recommended, but Sarah had to turn her down. She has however written to Jones's sister Mrs Mity, and hopefully something can be arranged.
