Scope and Content

From Maria Littlehales in West Hatch, to an unnamed correspondent [Charles Wesley]. She has read the books of [Richard] Hill and Rev. John Fletcher, and in the case of the former was unimpressed, especially by his use of an assertion of [Augustus] Toplady to try to prove that 'J W ' [John Wesley] contradicts himself. She was pleased to hear that John Wesley 'is likely to be still a blessing to the world'. Yesterday Littlehales defended John Wesley against some Calvinists, who were rather abusive. In a postscript she states that Laura has not yet heard from Sally Wesley, and that Lord Robert Manners is not expected to live much longer. Annotated by Charles Wesley - M Littlehales, discreet, cordial.
