Scope and Content

From Garret Wellesley, 1st Earl Mornington, at Dangan Castle, Ireland, to Charles Wesley in Chesterfield Street, London. He has been very busy with the affairs of his Irish estates, including the appointment of a new agent, who seems to be an excellent man of great probity and business sense. He hopes that his affairs will soon be in order allowing him to return to London, where he will call on Wesley.

Mornington would love to have Charles junior and Samuel with him in Ireland to play 'a few extempories on his organ', which instrument while he probably should not say it, is the best that he has seen. Alas his own playing does not amount to much.

Since his arrival three months before it has rained incessantly.

He has been so occupied with business affairs that he has seen very little of Dublin, and anyway there seems to be very little Irish news to report.

In a postscript he mentions finding a funeral anthem and a thanksgiving which he 'made' seventeen years before.

Annotated by Charles Wesley - L Mornington worthy and friendly.
