Correspondence files containing copies of letters from John Swire & Sons London to Butterfield & Swire Hong Kong and from Butterfield & Swire HK to London made up in the same format as the Butterfield & Swire correspondence series in JSSII 2. This series also has a similar indexing system which changes from a basic chronological order to a subject one in 1931.The files cover a wide range of aspects of basic management of the Company; including the registration, fitting, equipment, repair and overhaul of the steamers. Accidents, staff, routes, pool agreements and general problems of the running of the line and Chinese trade conditions. Letters concerning China Navigation Company Property and Accounts are filed separately and can be found in JSSIII 4 and JSSIII 5 respectively.
