Interregnum was a code word to be sent by London should it become necessary for the offices in Shanghai and Hong Kong to take over as the head offices of the firm in event of the serious disruption or complete elimination of the London office. The file contains correspondence on the transfer of authority to the East and discusses the possible developments towards war with Japan in the East
