Diverse Voices Award

Scope and Content

Draft material relating to the winning entries for the Frances Lincoln Diverse Voices Children's Book Award in the years 2009 to 2011 - 'Takeshita Demons' by Cristy Burne, 'Too Much Trouble' by Tom Avery and 'Om Shanti, Babe' by Helen Limon. All three of these winning entries were subsequently published by Frances Lincoln Children's Books, and the material in the collection relates to both the competition entries and the subsequent published books.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Frances Lincoln Diverse Voices award was founded jointly in 2009 by Frances Lincoln Limited and Seven Stories, in memory of Frances Lincoln (1945-2001) to encourage and promote diversity in children's fiction, and to promote new writing for children, especially by or about people whose culture and voice is under-represented. The prize of £1,500, plus the option for Frances Lincoln Children's Books to publish the novel, is awarded to the best work of unpublished fiction for 8-12 year olds by a writer aged 16 years or over, who has not previously published a novel for children.

The material in this collection documents the creation, and subsequent publication, of the winning entries in the years 2009-2011.
