British Official Photograph, War Office, showing an unidentified South African corporal batting during an impromptu cricket match with a wicket made of spades. The image measures 209 x 152 mm.
The caption on the reverse reads:
'A South African Cricketer in the Western Desert. A well-known African cricketer is now serving with the South African Forces in the Western Desert. He is a Corporal.
At the wicket. Despite the very wide wicket and the numerous slips, he still is able to hold his end up'.
