Scope and Content

Booklet includes photographs of Charlotte Marsh (1887-1961) in 1923 and 1960. Contents include tribute by Lord Pethick Lawrence relating to the part she played in the militant suffragette campaign, being imprisoned and subjected to forced feeding on hunger strike, by Baroness Summerskill, Vera Brittain, Dame Sybil Thorndike, and The Times obituary which states she was one of the first women to train as a sanitary inspector. She worked as a motor mechanic during the political truce of the Great War [First World War], was Lloyd George’s chauffeur and a land girl before working with the Community Chest organisation in the USA and later working for the National Assistance Board
