Family papers, 1571-1822, and estate records, 1450-1926, relating to the Carew family of Carew Castle and Crowcombe Court, Somerset. The estate records relate to estates in Pembrokeshire, 1610-1926, Devon, 1595-1843, Shropshire, 1552-1891, Somerset, 1450-1917, and Suffolk, 1710-1744, and include title deeds, rentals and leases.

Administrative / Biographical History

Carew Castle, Carew, Pembrokeshire, became the property of the Carew family in the middle of the sixteenth century. The family acquired property in Devon, Dorset and Shropshire, and also owned the seat of Crowcombe Court, Crowcombe, Somerset.

Arrangement

Arranged into three sections: title deeds, leases, and estate papers, each sub-divided into papers relating to the Devon, Pembrokeshire, Shropshire, Suffolk and Somerset estates; and a fourth section, personal and business papers.
