Frederick Wildman Goodwyn was born 20 June 1850 in Madras, now Chennai, India, the second son of Thomas Wildman Goodwyn of Calicut in the East Indies. He was educated at Clifton College and Brasenose College, Oxford, where he graduated BA in 1872 and MA in 1875. He was ordained deacon in 1873 and priest in 1874 both in the diocese of Exeter, where he held his first curacy.
In 1876 he moved to the diocese of York and was curate of Doncaster 1876-1878 and vicar of St Andrew, Sharrow, Sheffield, 1879-1889. In 1887 he married Ethel, daughter of William Thomson, Archbishop of York, and was appointed chaplain to the Archbishop from 1887 to 1890. In 1888 he also became prebendary and canon of Stillington in York Minster, a dignity he held until 1917.
He left York in 1889 and subsequently held livings in Botherfield, Eastbourne, Whittington and Cheltenham. From 1917 to 1923 he was canon of Gloucester Cathedral.
Reverend Wildman Goodwyn retired to East Sussex and died in 1931.
