GB 231 MS 3134 Small collection of papers of Colonel Henry Jackson Butchart, collected in the course of his duties as Quarter-Master General in Egypt and Europe, 1917 - 1918. The collection comprises, reports and instructional papers concerning campaigns, mainly in Palestine and Syria, 1917 - 1918; bundle of maps labelled Egypt and Palestine , with some manuscript notes, 1917 - 1918; bundle of European maps, with trench and other military details given, 1918.

Administrative / Biographical History

Colonel Henry Jackson Butchart (1882 - 1971) was Secretary and then Law Agent at Aberdeen University, from 1920 - 1952. He was sent to Egypt with the Expeditionary Force in 1915, where his military offices included that of Quarter-Master General. A brief tribute, by Principal Wright, is contained in Aberdeen University Review, 44 (1972), 231 - 233.
