Correspondence with K.G. Livingstone

Scope and Content

Correspondence between K.G. Livingstone, London representative of the Society of Germans Expropriated in England and E.T. Scott, relating to a request by E.T. Scott for information on how to obtain a letter by Livingstone written on behalf of the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and published in the Berliner Tageblatt, on the liquidation of ex-enemy property, which is provided. Also included is an internal memorandum relating to the alteration of a leader article based upon the information in the letter by Livingstone.

There is a request by Livingstone for a meeting with E.T. Scott to discuss the general position of ex-enemy property, which is declined, with the suggestion that Livingstone write a letter with the summation of his argument instead, which is provided. Also included is E.T. Scott's view that it would be futile to continue with further protest, as the German government have accepted the proposal made to them on the subject. There is correspondence relating to a visit to Manchester made by Livingstone, and apologies from E.T. Scott for not having been there when Livingstone called at the office.
