Correspondence with John Greenhalgh, journalist, relating to discussion of the provision of information on the American cotton trade for publication in the Manchester Guardian, and accompanied by a letter from Hugh D. Butler, American Trade Commissioner of the United Stated department of Commerce discussing the subject.

Also included is correspondence relating to Greenhalgh's employment as commercial editor for the Manchester Guardian, with reference to salary, and also discussion of the requirement of Greenhalgh's retirement owing to financial constraints at the paper, accompanied by internal memoranda.
