Anne Walmsley Archive (papers and correspondence with leading West Indian writers)

Scope and Content

The collection consists of correspondence and related papers of some leading West Indian writers and publishers dating from the early 1960s to 2000.

A large part of the collection related to Edward Kamau Braithwaite, a leading Caribbean poet and historian who received a doctorate from the University of Sussex in 1968.

Other writers include Wilson Harris, V.S Naipaul, Samual Selvon and V.S Reid.

Administrative / Biographical History

Dr Anne Walmsley is a lecturer and author specialising in Caribbean literature and art. She studied English at University of Durham, African Studies at the University of Sussex and earned her PhD from the University of Kent.

Items in the collection may be consulted for the purpose of private study and personal research, within the controlled environment and restrictions of The Keep's Reading Rooms.

The collection was donated to the University of Sussex by Dr Anne Walmsley in March 2005
