Lease (counterpart and copy), for 56 years, from 29 September (1793), rent £24 yearly, 30 Sep 1793; (i) Edward Matthews of city of Bristol, esquire, to (ii) John Smith of Gwernllwynwith, parish of Llansamlet, esquire: (i)’s undivided moiety or half part of and in messuage, tenement and lands called Glyn y Gorse. And also of and in all those cottages, garden and croft at Hoellace (Heol Las), all which said premises now are or late were in tenure of (ii), his undertenants or assigns and are in parish of Llansamlet together with all and singular waters and watercourses, streams and springs of water : running on, over or through premises hereby demised or any part thereof with full and free liberty to use same for any purposes necessary to colliery of (ii) in parish of Llansamlet and also with full and free liberty, power and authority to root or dig up from said ground all bushes, furze and heath growing therein and fully and effectively to clear same for agricultural purposes and always reserved out of this present demise unto (i), his heirs and assigns all timber trees and trees likely to become timber and coppices of wood and underwood, except bushes, furze and heath aforesaid, now being or which at any time hereafter during terms hereby granted shall or may be in and upon said demised premises or in and upon any part thereof and also all veins and mines of coal, culm, lead, copper, tin, iron and all others mines and minerals whatsoever
