Administrative / Biographical History

The tinplate industry in Carmarthenshire originated in the second half of the 19th century. The Dafen Tinplate and Galvanizing Co. Ltd developed from the Dafen tinplate works in Llanelli, owned by Phillips, Nunes and Co., opened in 1846. The Gorse Galvanizing Works were opened in 1914, close to the tinplate works. The company continued production until 1959.
