Records of Vale of Leven Football and Athletic Club

Scope and Content

This collection contains a Golden Jubilee Celebrations Programme of Events produced by Vale of Leven Football and Athletic Club (1989).

Administrative / Biographical History

The original Vale of Leven Football Club was established in 1872. The club were founder members of both the Scottish Football Association in 1873 and the Scottish Football League in 1890. The original club won the Scottish Cup three times in succession, 1877, 1878 and 1879, but by 1893 were out of the league, playing only friendlies and cup matches. They returned to the Scottish Football League twice more with periods in non-league completions in-between but folded in 1929.

The modern club was formed in 1939 and joined the Scottish Football Alliance. However, the completion was quickly suspended due to the imposition of war-time travel restrictions. The club then joined the Scottish Junior Football Association. They currently play in the SJFA West Region at Milburn Park in Alexandria.
