Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Wildcat Stage Productions Ltd was formed in 1978 when three of the original members of the 7:84 Scotland company left to form a new touring theatre company. The aim of Wildcat was to create new popular theatre specifically through the medium of music with a socialist outlook. It was incorporated as a limited company in 1978 under the title Wildcat Stage Productions Ltd. The derelict theatre at The Pleasance, Edinburgh, Scotland, was restored and opened as the Wildcat Theatre Complex in 1980. It was used as a venue for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Wildcat Stage Productions continued to perform but the withdrawal of its Scottish Arts Council funding in the early 1990s led to a more limited production schedule. The company has now ceased production.
