Member of the Superannuated and Elderly Members Fellowship of the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers. Talks about the 'garden city' of Hereford, HP Bulmer the cider maker, early childhood, home and school. Apprenticed into engineering, came to Coventry in 1926 to work at Armstrong Siddeley Motors, transferred from aero fitting. Later worked as a service engineer for Humber Hillman. By 1923 working on Armstrong Siddeley aero engines. Dispersed to Ulverston, Lancashire, during the Second World War. Returned to Coventry in 1945; by 1955 an engine inspector.
