LETTERS PATENT OF INCORPORATION OF BANBURY BANKING CO.

Scope and Content

This document was deposited on permanent loan with Oxfordshire Archives via the British Records Association in 1965. It was given the BRA number 1328, and the Accession Number 574.

There is something of a mystery over the company: the Cobbs were important bankers in Victorian Banbury, but histories of the Cobbs, and contemporary directories, show that they tended to

trade under their own name, even after 1849, and the name "Banbury Banking Company" does not appear anywhere. It is therefore not clear what this deed is about; perhaps the whole plan came to nothing.

Recatalogued in July 1994.
