Incoming letters

Scope and Content

There is a mass of incoming letters, all in loose bundles, arranged by the partnership into alphabetical order within years, and dating from 1829-57. In most cases, these relate to the letter books above, being sent by prominent customers, concerning their accounts. After 1842, however, the volume of letters drops drastically, and there are few for James Hodgson's years in England.

Much of the later material is miscellaneous, including share prospectuses, bills, rough notes, and other such papers.
