Administrative / Biographical History
The Association of Engineering and Shipbuilding Draughtsmen was established in 1913. In 1922 it took into membership the Tracers' Association (an all-female union). In 1961 it was renamed the Draughtsmen and Allied Technicians' Association (DATA). In 1970 DATA amalgamated with the Amalgamated Union of Engineering and Foundry Workers and the Constructional Engineering Union to become the Technical and Supervisory Section of the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers, renamed AUEW (Technical, Administrative and Supervisory Section) in 1971. In 1985 the amalgamation was dissolved and TASS merged with several other unions. In 1988 it merged with the Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs to become Manufacturing, Science, Finance (MSF).
