Administrative / Biographical History

Machine Cottons Ltd, thread distributors, Glasgow, Scotland, were established prior to  1901 . By  1917 ,  The Central Agency Ltd, selling agents, Glasgow was the major shareholder. The records indicate that all business was concerned with South America, although the company withdrew from active trading in Brazil in 1955. In Brazil, Machine Cottons Ltd traded in sewing threads, embroidery threads, needles and polished yarns. They also sold safety pins, hinged pins and hair grips manufactured by Needle Industries Ltd. Machine Cottons Ltd appears to have ceased trading in the  1960s .
