Administrative / Biographical History

Records of staff and student societies comprise material produced by or relating to the various clubs and societies of staff and students at the Technical College and the University of Strathclyde. Many of the clubs were subject-based, while others such as the Staff Club were College- or University-wide. Further information on those clubs affiliated to the Students' Association may be found in the student handbook, 'Crust', published by the association.

Most of the material dates from the 20th century but there are 19th century records relating to some of the older established societies, such as the Andersonian Chemical Society, the Architectural Craftsmen's Society , the Scientific Society and the Young Laboratory Students' Society. The '96 Group was formed in the 1950s to foster interest in the history of the institution, and prepare for the Bicentenary in 1996. Records of staff and student societies of Jordanhill College form part of the Jordanhill Archives.
